WHEREAS, William R. "Bill" Emerson of Virginia Beach is a graduate of Indiana University, where he played basketball under legendary coach Bobby Knight; and

WHEREAS, Bill Emerson came to Virginia in the late 1960s and has been involved in youth activities for more than 30 years; and

WHEREAS, an inspirational and dedicated community leader, Bill Emerson has reached thousands of young people through coaching baseball and basketball and serving as director of various recreation associations; and

WHEREAS, Bill Emerson continues to inspire countless young people to become involved in their community in youth sports and numerous other areas; and

WHEREAS, Bill Emerson combines a successful career as an employee of a national financial service company with being a dedicated community outreach leader; and

WHEREAS, Bill Emerson still provides assistance and guidance to many young people as they moved on to college and to their life careers; and

WHEREAS, Bill Emerson's legacy will be the contribution he has made in so many lives by teaching sound civic principles and a dedication to scholarship and by serving as a personal example for many to emulate; and

WHEREAS, Bill Emerson's superb skills have been instrumental in developing life skills and values vital to the future of the country; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, the That General Assembly commend William R. “Bill” Emerson for his 30 years of exceptional service to the youth of Virginia Beach; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to William R. Emerson as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude.
