WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Lieutenant Colonel Dennis M. Johnson of Burke, who had worked at the Pentagon for the past year in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel; and

WHEREAS, a native of Wisconsin, Lieutenant Colonel Johnson studied business administration at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and later earned a master's degree in hotel and restaurant management; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Johnson was a 25-year veteran of service in the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Johnson and his wife, Joyce Johnson, were the parents of two daughters and had recently purchased a home in Burke; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Lieutenant Colonel Dennis M. Johnson, a victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Dennis M. Johnson as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
