HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 445
Celebrating the life of Gregg Harold Smallwood.

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Gregg Harold Smallwood of Woodbridge, a chief information systems technician in the United States Navy assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon; and

WHEREAS, a native of Overland Park, Kansas, Gregg Smallwood joined the Navy in 1979, served on the USS Henry B. Wilson and in San Diego, Guam, and Texas, then left the service in 1981; and

WHEREAS, Gregg Smallwood rejoined the Navy in 1988 and served in various locations including the Naval Computer Telecommunications Station in Diego Garcia before being assigned to the Pentagon in 1998; and

WHEREAS, during his Navy career, Gregg Smallwood earned three Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, a Navy Unit Commendation, three Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, three Good Conduct Medals, and numerous other decorations; and

WHEREAS, Gregg Smallwood was a devoted husband and father of three daughters; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Gregg Harold Smallwood, a victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Gregg Harold Smallwood as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
