2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, Mike Biehl, the starting quarterback for the Salem High School football team of Virginia Beach, experienced a record-setting 2001 season; and
WHEREAS, in 11 games, Mike Biehl passed for 3,519 yards, setting the new Virginia High School League record for most passing yards in a season; and
WHEREAS, Mike Biehl's total passing yardage surpassed the previous South Hampton Roads single-season mark by more than 1,200 yards; and
WHEREAS, Mike Biehl set four new Virginia Beach records for the regular season--3 touchdown passes, 3,223 passing yards, 221 completions, and 338 attempts; and
WHEREAS, Mike Biehl also set four new Virginia Beach single-game records--428 passing yards, 50 attempts, 33 completions, and 6 touchdowns; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his personal records, Mike Biehl led the Salem High School Sun Devils to a nine-win season and their first berth in the postseason playoffs; and
WHEREAS, Mike Biehl is an outstanding student-athlete, a leader on and off the field, who contributes to his community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Salem High School quarterback Mike Biehl for his leadership and his record-breaking 2001 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mike Biehl as an expression of the congratulations and best wishes of the General Assembly.
