WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and
WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack were Robert R. Ploger III and Zandra Cooper Ploger of Annandale, who were passengers on American Airlines Flight 77 when it crashed into the Pentagon; and
WHEREAS, Robert Ploger and Zandra Ploger were married on May 12, 2001, on a boat in the middle of Lake of the Woods; and
WHEREAS, their busy professional lives prevented Robert and Zandra Ploger from taking a honeymoon trip until September 11, when they boarded American Airlines Flight 77 for the first leg of their honeymoon to Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Robert Ploger was a key employee for Lockheed Martin, where he was a technologist and lead systems architect for some of the company's most important programs, and Zandra Ploger was a manager at IBM for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, the parents of four grown children, Robert and Zandra Ploger will be missed by their families and their many friends and colleagues in Northern Virginia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Robert R. Ploger III and Zandra Cooper Ploger, innocent victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert R. Ploger III and Zandra Cooper Ploger as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
