WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was John Sammartino of Annandale, a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon on September 11; and

WHEREAS, John Sammartino was a technical group manager for XonTech in Arlington, a research and development firm specializing in sensor technologies for defense and industry, and was traveling to a business meeting in California; and

WHEREAS, a native of New York, John Sammartino was a graduate of George Washington University and earned his master's degree from Johns Hopkins University; and

WHEREAS, married and the father of a young daughter, John Sammartino was a skilled woodworker who enjoyed working with his father on the expansion and renovation of his home in Annandale; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of John Sammartino, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of John Sammartino as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
