2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and
WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Lieutenant Commander David L. Williams of Arlington, who was killed while serving in the office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and
WHEREAS, David L. Williams was a 1991 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute, where he earned academic stars, was an exceptional athlete on the track and field team and an editor of the Cadet newspaper, and where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in English; and
WHEREAS, despite the many accomplishments of his short life, David L. Williams will be remembered most as a devoted husband and father with a steadfast commitment to faith, family, and freedom; and
WHEREAS, upon his death the United States Navy posthumously awarded Lieutenant Commander David L. Williams the Meritorious Service Medal and a Purple Heart; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Lieutenant Commander David L. Williams, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States who died in the service of his country; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lieutenant Commander David L. Williams as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
