WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched an inexcusable attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Robert Hymel of the Prince William County community of Lake Ridge, a management analyst for the Defense Intelligence Agency; and

WHEREAS, a 24-year veteran of service in the Air Force, Robert Hymel served a tour of duty in Vietnam and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel; and

WHEREAS, Robert Hymel moved to Lake Ridge with his wife of 30 years, Pat, 10 years ago and began his career at the Pentagon; and

WHEREAS, Robert Hymel was devoted to his family, especially his daughter, Natalie, and his granddaughter, Lauren; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Hymel, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Hymel as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
