WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched an inexcusable attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Lacey B. Ivory of Woodbridge, a sergeant major in the U.S. Army stationed at the Pentagon; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Ivory joined the Army after graduation from high school and later earned his master's degree in education while in the service; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Ivory put his education to good use, designing the Army University Online project, which is designed to give active soldiers an education; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Ivory and his wife, Deborah, were the parents of four daughters and had recently become grandparents for the second time; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Major Lacey B. Ivory was buried with full honors; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sergeant Major Lacey B. Ivory, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant Major Lacey B. Ivory as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
