Commending Keri Wormald.

WHEREAS, Keri Wormald, a teacher at Lloyd C. Bird High School in Chesterfield County, is a 1999 Disney American Teacher Award Honoree; and

WHEREAS, a theater teacher at Bird since 1994, Keri Wormald was one of 39 teachers honored by Disney out of nearly 70,000 nominated for the awards; and

WHEREAS, Keri Wormald was honored for her “energy and enthusiasm” in lifting “both colleagues and students to new levels of excellence”; and

WHEREAS, a summa cum laude graduate of James Madison University, Keri Wormald pursued post-graduate theater studies at Lancaster University in England and earned a master’s degree in fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University; and

WHEREAS, Keri Wormald’s innovative teaching techniques have led to increased popularity for theater classes at Lloyd C. Bird High School, which now boasts one of the largest theater programs in the region; and

WHEREAS, Keri Wormald is also involved with young people in the greater Richmond community through her work with the School for the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community and her association with TheatreVirginia and Theatre IV; and

WHEREAS, a founding member of the Richmond Alliance of Professional Theatres, an association dedicated to raising the profile of theatre through performances and education, Keri Wormald is currently serving as the organization’s president; and

WHEREAS, a popular, dedicated, and innovative teacher and a widely respected leader in the Richmond theater community, Keri Wormald is a worthy recipient of the Disney American Teacher Award; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Keri Wormald on her recognition as one of the finest teachers in the nation; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Keri Wormald as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for her devotion to the education of the young people of Chesterfield County.
