Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 16.1-69.44 and 17.1-327 of the Code of Virginia are amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 16.1-69.44. Salaries of judges.
Each district court judge shall be paid by the Commonwealth an annual salary which shall be fixed in the general appropriation acts and set at an amount equal to ninety percent of the annual salary fixed by state law for judges of the circuit courts.
Each substitute judge of a district court shall receive for his services a per
diem compensation of $150 $200 except when such judge sits pursuant to the
provisions of Title 37.1, in which case compensation shall be limited to that
provided in § 37.1-89. The judge replaced may certify that the substitute judge
is entitled to seventy-five dollars $100 if the substitute judge acted in his
official capacity for less than a full court docket or served less than four hours. A full-time judge
elected to an initial term after January 1, 1974, shall also be prohibited from
engaging in the practice of law.
§ 17.1-327. Payment for services of retired judges; members of the State Corporation Commission and Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission.
Any justice, judge, member of the State Corporation Commission, or member of
the Virginia Workers' Compensation Commission who is retired under the Judicial
Retirement System (§ 51.1-300 et seq.) and who is temporarily recalled to
service shall be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred during such service and
shall be paid a per diem of $150 $200 for each day he actually sits, exclusive
of travel time.
