1999 SESSION
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 54.1-2939 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 54.1-2939. Surgery by podiatrists on patients under general anesthesia limited.
Podiatrists shall not perform surgery on patients under a general anesthetic
except in a hospital approved by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of
Hospitals and Health Care Organizations or in an ambulatory surgery center
approved by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, the
Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care, Inc., or the American Association for
Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. Podiatrists shall perform
such surgery only to the extent permitted by this chapter and the rules of such
hospital.
