981198466WHEREAS, the Eastern Shore and Southwest Virginia have not experienced the growth that other regions of Virginia have in the development of technology-based industry; and
WHEREAS, the Eastern Shore and Southwest Virginia have relatively high unemployment rates when compared to the state as a whole, and have not experienced the growth in their labor forces as have other areas in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, colleges and universities serving the Eastern Shore and Southwest Virginia produce an abundance of professional and highly skilled workers seeking employment; and
WHEREAS, the economic development efforts of the Eastern Shore and Southwest Virginia would be greatly enhanced if a local office of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership were opened in each of these regions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Virginia Economic Development Partnership be requested to open an office in the Eastern Shore and an office in Southwest Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership in order that it may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly in this matter.
