SUMMARY:

Public assistance; Virginia Independence Program. Provides that any individual who is enrolled full-time in, and is expected to complete within 12 months and is making satisfactory progress toward completion of, a job training, secondary or post-secondary educational program designed to result in self-sufficiency is exempt from the work requirement and two-year time limit on the receipt of aid to families with dependent children. Such individuals shall remain eligible for AFDC financial assistance for a period not to exceed 12 months. The families of individuals subject to this exemption shall be considered VIEW families under § 63.1-133.46. This bill incorporates HB 2727.
