971652324Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That §§ 23-104 and 23-105 the Code of Virginia are amended and reenacted, and that the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 23-103.1 as follows:
§ 23-103.1. Qualifications of cadets for admission.
Any person admitted as a pay cadet or a state cadet to the Institute shall meet, in addition to such terms as may be prescribed by the board of visitors for the admission of cadets, the criteria prescribed by the U. S. Department of Defense in the Direct Ground Combat and Assignment Rule for the United States armed services.
§ 23-104. Admission of pay cadets; qualifications for admission; course of instruction, etc.
The board of visitors shall prescribe the terms upon which cadets may be admitted, their number, the course of their instruction, the nature of their service, and the duration thereof. The board of visitors shall also require that such cadets meet the criteria prescribed by the U. S. Department of Defense in the Direct Ground Combat and Assignment Rule for the United States armed services.
§ 23-105. Admission and qualifications of state cadets.
A. The board shall admit annually as state cadets, free of charge
for board and tuition, upon evidence of fair moral character, not less than
fifty young men and women, who shall be not less than sixteen nor
more than twenty-five years of age; one of whom one shall
be selected from each of the senatorial districts as at present constituted,
and the other remaining fourteen cadets from
the Commonwealth at large. Whenever a vacancy has occurred, or is likely to
occur, in any district, due notice of the time and place of making the
appointment to supply the vacancy shall be given. If, after such notice, no
suitable person shall apply from such district, the vacancy may be supplied
from the Commonwealth at large.
B. State cadets shall meet, in addition to such terms for admission as may be prescribed by the board of visitors, the criteria prescribed by the U. S. Department of Defense in the Direct Ground Combat and Assignment Rule for the United States armed services.
