An Act to amend and reenact § 40, as amended, of Chapter 216 of the Acts of Assembly of 1952, which provided a charter for the City of Roanoke, relating to public contracts.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 40, as amended, of Chapter 216 of the Acts of Assembly of 1952 is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 40. Contracts for public improvements; purchases.

Any purchase, public work, or improvement, costing more than fifteen thirty thousand dollars, except as provided in the next succeeding section, shall be executed by contract. All contracts for more than fifteen thirty thousand dollars shall be awarded after public advertisement and competition, as may be prescribed by general law. The city council shall have the power to reject any and all bids, and all advertisements shall contain a reservation of this right.
