LD1791232Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.1-9.1:3 as follows:
§ 15.1-9.1:3. Authority of city and town attorneys to prosecute certain criminal matters.
City and town attorneys, if so authorized by their local governing bodies, [ and with the concurrence of the attorney for the Commonwealth for the locality, ] may prosecute criminal cases charging either the violation of city or town ordinances, or the commission of misdemeanors within the city or town, notwithstanding the provisions of § 15.1-8.1.
