SUMMARY:

Effects of military reductions on K-12 and higher education. Requests the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to study the effects of reductions in the military force on future enrollments in higher education and the feasibility and appropriateness of employing former military personnel as K-12 and collegiate faculty in the Commonwealth. SCHEV is to consult with representatives of the Board of Education, the Commonwealth's public and private institutions of higher education, military organizations, and other state agencies as it deems appropriate. SCHEV is to review current employment and licensure requirements for persons employed as instructional personnel in the public schools and in institutions of higher education; enrollment projections at Virginia's public institutions; the employment of military personnel as instructors by educational institutions in other states; and is to develop recommendations for the employment of these individuals as teachers in the Commonwealth. The State Council shall complete its work in time to submit its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the 1995 Session of the General Assembly.
