LD1135713Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 46.2-800 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 46.2-800. Riding bicycles or mopeds; riding or driving animals.
Every person riding a bicycle, moped or an animal or driving an animal on a highway shall be subject to the provisions of this chapter and shall have all of the rights and duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle, unless the context of the provision clearly indicates otherwise.
The provisions of this chapter governing operation of bicycles and mopeds shall not apply to bicycles or mopeds operated by law-enforcement officers while performing their official duties. The governing bodies of counties, cities, and towns, may similarly exempt bicycles and mopeds operated by law-enforcement officers, while performing their official duties, from local ordinances governing operation of bicycles and mopeds.
