SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:
Constitutional amendment; length of regular sessions convened in odd-numbered years. Amends the Constitution of Virginia to provide that a regular session of the General Assembly convened in an odd-numbered year shall continue for no longer than 46 days and may be extended for a period not exceeding 14 days. Under the current constitution, a regular session convened in an odd-numbered year shall continue for no longer than 30 days and may be extended for a period not exceeding 30 days.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Constitutional amendment (first reference); legislative sessions; length of regular sessions convened in odd-numbered years. Provides that a regular session of the General Assembly convened in odd-numbered years shall be for no longer than 46 days. Currently, sessions convened in such years are to last for no longer than 30 days. The authority of the General Assembly, with the concurrence of two-thirds of the elected members, to extend regular sessions for a period of no more than 30 days is unchanged.
