20200930DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 1 of Chapter 17 of Title 15.2 a section numbered 15.2-1723.2 as follows:
§ 15.2-1723.2. Uniformed law-enforcement officers; identification; penalty.
A. Every law-enforcement officer as defined in § 9.1-101 who is on duty and in uniform shall wear a badge, nameplate, or other device that conspicuously displays the officer's badge or other identification number or the name of the officer. Upon request for identification from any person, a law-enforcement officer who is on duty and in uniform shall disclose his badge or other identification number or his name.
B. Any law-enforcement officer who is on duty and in uniform who intentionally obstructs or conceals his badge or other identification number or his name is guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor.
