SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Limits on dispensing of certain drugs; penalty. Prohibits a practitioner of medicine, osteopathy, podiatry, or dentistry from (i) dispensing to a patient an amount of a controlled substance that exceeds the amount necessary for the patient's use in a 72-hour period or (ii) dispensing a total amount of any controlled substance that exceeds 2,500 dosage units in any 30-day period. The bill further provides that a practitioner of medicine, osteopathy, podiatry, or dentistry who fails to comply with these requirements shall be subject to a civil penalty not to exceed $5,000.
