Introduced by: Walter A. Stosch | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles | history
SUMMARY AS PASSED:
Public records; protection of law-enforcement officers; penalty. Includes identification of the person's primary residence address in the statute prohibiting the publishing of a person's name or photograph aalong with their identifying information. Also states that if any person violates the statute (§ 18.2-186.3), and he knew or had reason to know that the person he was identifying was a law-enforcement officer, then he is guilty of a Class 6 felony instead of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Public records; protection of law-enforcement officers; penalty. Requires a clerk of court, upon written request from a law-enforcement officer, to remove any land records from the Internet or from an online subscription service that identify a law-enforcement officer's home address or the address of his spouse or children. The bill also makes it a Class 1 misdemeanor for the perpetrator of a crime against the person to identify, choose, or locate his victim using public records. If the victim is a law-enforcement officer, it is a Class 6 felony.
