047729444Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 33.1-94.1 as follows:
§ 33.1-94.1. Charging of rent during short-term occupancy of property being acquired through use of eminent domain.
Whenever the Commissioner acquires property under this article, so long as any suit is being conducted in connection with such acquisition under this article, the owner of the condemned property shall be allowed to continue to occupy any structure located on the condemned property without payment of rent for a period of 180 days or until the conclusion of the court proceedings, whichever is later.
