2002 SESSION
SB 201 Standards of Quality in public schools; biennial review.
Introduced by: R. Edward Houck | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY AS PASSED: (all summaries)
Standards of Quality revisions. Requires, to ensure the integrity of the standards of quality, the Board of Education to exercise its constitutional authority to determine and prescribe the standards, subject to revision only by the General Assembly, by (i) reviewing the standards and (ii) either proposing amendments to the standards or (iii) making a determination that no changes are necessary. In any odd-numbered year in which the Board proposes changes to the standards of quality, the budget estimates that are statutority required to be reported pursuant to 2.2-1504 must take into consideration the Board's proposed standards of quality. Prior to 1984, the Board was required to revise the standards every two years in the odd-numbered year. With the codification of the standards in 1984, this requirement was removed.
