SUMMARY:

Certain municipal elections; postponement and rescheduling. Provides for the rescheduling of the May 1994 school board elections in Alexandria and Chesapeake if the city has not received notice, on or before April 8, 1994, from the Attorney General of the United States under § 5 of the Voting Rights Act that the city's plan for school board elections is cleared and may be implemented. If clearance is not received by April 8, the election is postponed until the November 1994 election or the first appropriate Tuesday more than 90 days after clearance is received, whichever is later. The bill also postpones the May 1994 election in any town which has annexed territory since the preceding town election and has not received § 5 clearance on or before April 8, 1994, to implement post-annexation elections.
