SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
False reports to law enforcement; penalty. Increases from a Class 1 misdemeanor to a Class 6 felony the punishment for knowingly making a false report to or calling or summoning without just cause any law-enforcement official if such report, call, or summons (i) involves a report of an act of violence or (ii) results in an immediate emergency response due to the facts of the crime falsely reported. The bill increases the penalty to a Class 5 felony if such emergency response results in serious bodily injury to or the death of any person. The bill also provides that a person convicted of such an offense be ordered to pay restitution for the reasonable expenses incurred in providing an appropriate emergency response.
