SJ 430 Study; licensure of dietitians and nutritionists.
Introduced by: John C. Watkins | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Study; licensure of dietitians and nutritionists. Requests the Board of Health Professions to study whether dietitians and nutritionists in Virginia should be licensed. Presently, Virginia requires, in Chapter 27.1 (§ 54.1-2720 et seq.) of Title 54.1, that dietitians and nutritionists hold certain credentials to hold themselves out to be, advertise themselves to be or permit themselves to be advertised to be dietitians and nutritionists, with violations punishable by a Class 3 misdemeanor (a fine of not more than $500). This resolution notes the variety of settings in which dietitians and nutritionists work, the evidence for the importance of diet and nutrition on physical and mental health, and the growing trend to require these professionals to be licensed. The Board of Health Professions must complete its study and submit recommendations to the Governor and the 2000 Session of the General Assembly.
