SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Eluding police. Raises the penalty for disregarding a police signal to stop from a Class 4 misdemeanor to a Class 3 misdemeanor, for eluding police from a Class 1 misdemeanor to a Class 6 felony, and for eluding police and causing serious bodily injury from a Class 6 felony to a Class 5 felony. The bill mandates a minimum 30-day driver’s license suspension for a misdemeanor conviction under the section, a minimum 180-day suspension for a felony conviction and a minimum 90-day suspension for eluding at 20 mph or more over the speed limit. All license suspensions under the bill run consecutively. A vehicle owner who is convicted of a felony under the section must forfeit his vehicle to the Commonwealth.
