Custody and visitation; best interests of child. Requires the court to take into account each parent’s ability to resolve disputes regarding matters affecting the child. The judge must also communicate to the parties the basis for the custody or visitation decision either orally or in writing.

Requires the court, when considering the role each parent has played and will play in the future in the upbringing and care of the child, to take into account each parent’s proposal for the child’s residential schedule and care arrangements and for handling disputes with the other parent. The judge must also communicate to the parties the basis for the custody or visitation decision.
