SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 558
Commending the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band.

WHEREAS, the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band was named a 1997-98 Virginia Honor Band, the highest award a high school band can earn in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, to be a Virginia Honor Band, a school band must receive a superior rating at both Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association state events: the State Marching Festival and the State Concert Festival; and

WHEREAS, by winning designation as a Virginia Honor Band, the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band became one of only six bands so honored in Southwest Virginia and one of only 34 statewide; and

WHEREAS, the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band also won superior ratings at the George Wythe Band Festival and the High Country Band Festival; and

WHEREAS, the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band promotes excellence in musical education by hosting the Clinch River Band Festival; and

WHEREAS, the high honor won by the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band is a tribute to the talents and dedication of the band members, the inspirational leadership of Director James French and Associate Director Raejean Harman, and the unflagging support of the parents, students, and staff of Tazewell High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly congratulate the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band on its designation as a 1997-98 Virginia Honor Band; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Directors James French and Raejean Harman in honor of the outstanding performance of the Tazewell High School Bulldog Band.
