WHEREAS, Virginia’s children are at once the Commonwealth’s most enduring and most vulnerable legacy; and

WHEREAS, to preserve and protect the health of Virginia’s children requires the highest quality health care; and

WHEREAS, consistent and effective advocacy for the well-being of infants, children, adolescents, young adults, and their families is necessary to safeguard the future of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, optimal physical, mental, and social health and well-being for Virginia’s children and their families depend on advocacy, research, service, and improvements in the Commonwealth’s social and health-care systems; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby designate 2000 as the Year of the Child and Family in Virginia; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly urge Virginians to mark the beginning of a new millennium by resolving to better care for the key to the continued success and prosperity of the Commonwealth: Virginia’s children and families.
