WHEREAS, the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court has been recognized as one of the finest courts of its kind in the nation; and
WHEREAS, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the nation’s oldest judicial membership organization, has recognized the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court as a national model in improving practice in child abuse and neglect cases; and
WHEREAS, the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court relies on a core group of committed professionals from the Alexandria Department of Social Services, the City Attorney’s Office, the Alexandria Court Service Unit, the Alexandria CASA Program, and attorneys representing both parents and children to achieve better results through collaboration and communication; and
WHEREAS, the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court serves as a national model with its Victims Act Model Court initiative, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention; and
WHEREAS, the Alexandria Victims Act Model Court is one of only 17 model courts nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the prestigious recognition of the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court is a tribute to the dedicated efforts of the court’s judges, clerk, and staff, who have endeavored with great success to better serve the children and families of Alexandria; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court on being recognized as a national model in improving practices in child abuse and neglect cases; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Stephen W. Rideout, Chief Judge, and the Honorable Nolan B. Dawkins, Judge, as an expression of the General Assembly’s great admiration for the signal achievements of the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
