1999 SESSION
WHEREAS, tourism is a major component of Virginia’s economy; and
WHEREAS, a very large proportion of visitors to the Commonwealth travel in passenger vehicles on interstate highways; and
WHEREAS, the construction of visitors centers and passenger vehicle rest stops near the junctions of interstate highways can contribute significantly to an increase in the number of visitors touring attractions in the surrounding area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Virginia Tourism Authority and the Virginia Department of Transportation are requested to consider establishment of a regional visitors center and passenger vehicle rest stop in the vicinity of the Interstate Route 64/81 interchange on Frontier Museum Property at Staunton; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the Virginia Tourism Authority and the Commonwealth Transportation Commissioner in order that they be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly in this matter.
