Celebrating the life of Kenneth Wesley Pretlow Goss.

WHEREAS, Kenneth Wesley Pretlow Goss, a former star athlete who returned to Norfolk following a successful career with the Ford Motor Company, died on March 22, 1998; and

WHEREAS, a native of Texas, Kenneth Goss moved to Norfolk with his parents and immediately excelled in the Norfolk public schools; and

WHEREAS, recognized at an early age as a talented scholar, athlete and musician, Kenneth Goss established a sterling reputation in all three areas at Jacox Junior High School and Booker T. Washington High School; and

WHEREAS, a star on the basketball court, on the football field, and in the classroom, Kenneth Goss graduated from Booker T. Washington High School as a member of the National Honor Society, captain of the state championship football team, and recognition as the Most Valuable Athlete in Virginia; and

WHEREAS, following two years at Norfolk State University, Kenneth Goss graduated from Fisk University and immediately began a successful 23-year career with the Ford Motor Company; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth Goss returned to Norfolk in 1991 and resumed his active commitment to the Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Pastoral Relations Board and worked with the Mentor-Mentee Ministry and the Television Ministry; and

WHEREAS, the Brotherhood of Bank Street honored Kenneth Goss in 1998 during its Men’s Day celebration with a plaque in recognition of his valuable contributions to the church and the community; and

WHEREAS, a man of rare talent, strong character, and success in many fields, Kenneth Goss will be remembered for his numerous contributions to the Norfolk community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the untimely loss of one of Norfolk’s finest citizens, Kenneth Wesley Pretlow Goss; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kenneth Wesley Pretlow Goss as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
