1999 SESSION
WHEREAS, following a chance meeting in a creative writing class, Suzanne Guy and Donna Lacy have teamed up to create a children’s book that is attracting national attention; and
WHEREAS, Suzanne Guy, a Norfolk piano teacher and motivational speaker, and Donna Lacy, a former art teacher from Virginia Beach, spent two years in the research and writing of The Music Box; and
WHEREAS, the story of Bartolomeo de Francesco Cristofori, the inventor of the piano, The Music Box was coauthored by Suzanne Guy and Donna Lacy and illustrated by Donna Lacy; and
WHEREAS, the melding of the two authors’ talents has resulted in a book that has been featured in two music magazines and may be part of the Smithsonian Institution’s planned celebration of the birth of the piano, which begins in 2000; and
WHEREAS, The Music Box, carefully researched and artfully written and illustrated, also contains information for teachers to use in the classroom; and
WHEREAS, the collaboration of Suzanne Guy and Donna Lacy, already fruitful with the publication of The Music Box and the establishment of a lasting friendship, promises to produce more children’s literature in the near future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby congratulate Suzanne Guy and Donna Lacy on the success of The Music Box; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Suzanne Guy and Donna Lacy as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and best wishes for continued success.
