1999 SESSION
WHEREAS, Reginald Elmo “Reggie” Garman, a prominent citizen of Roanoke and a veteran of service in World War II, died on August 31, 1998; and
WHEREAS, a native of Roanoke, Reggie Garman served in the 116th Infantry, 29th Division of the United States Army and was a veteran of the D-Day landings at Normandy on June 6, 1944; and
WHEREAS, active in veterans’ organizations, Reggie Garman was a member of the American Legion and of Roanoke Post 64 of the 29th Division Association, which he also headed as National Commander in 1981; and
WHEREAS, retired from the Norfolk and Western Railway following 20 years of service, Reggie Garman was popular among Roanoke area residents for his produce stand and the beautiful Christmas wreaths he created each holiday season; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his service to the community, Reggie Garman was presented with an honorary key to the City of Roanoke in 1981 by then-Mayor Noel Taylor; and
WHEREAS, well-known and widely respected in his hometown, Reggie Garman will be sorely missed by his family, his fellow veterans, and his countless friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine citizen of the Commonwealth, Reginald Elmo Garman; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Reginald Elmo Garman as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his lifelong service to his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation.
