A BILL to amend and reenact §§ 15.2-915 and 15.2-1208 of the Code of Virginia and to repeal § 15.2-1207 of the Code of Virginia, relating to control of firearms.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That §§ 15.2-915 and 15.2-1208 of the Code of Virginia are amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 15.2-915. Control of firearms.

From and after January 1, 1987, no A. No locality shall adopt or enforce any ordinance to govern or regulation governing the purchase, possession, transfer, ownership, carrying or transporting of firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof other than those expressly authorized by statute.

B. Any records or copies thereof in the custody of any locality which were created pursuant to any ordinance or regulation affected by this section shall be destroyed within thirty days. Upon destroying the records, every locality shall certify to the circuit court that such destruction has been completed.

Nothing in this section shall affect the validity or invalidity of any ordinance adopted prior to January 1, 1987. Nothing in this section shall have any effect on any pending litigation. However, no C. No person may be prosecuted or convicted of a violation of any ordinance regulating the transportation of a firearm if he is (i) in lawful possession of the firearm and he has a valid concealed handgun permit issued pursuant to § 18.2-308 or (ii) otherwise transporting the firearm in a lawful manner.

§ 15.2-1208. Pistols and revolvers; in certain counties.

Chapter 297 of the Acts of 1944, approved March 29, 1944, requiring permits to sell or purchase pistols or revolvers in any county having a density of population of more than 1,000 a square mile, is continued in effect repealed. Any records or copies thereof in the custody of any county which were created pursuant to this section shall be destroyed within thirty days. Upon destroying the records, such county shall certify to the circuit court that such destruction has been completed.

2. That § 15.2-1207 of the Code of Virginia is repealed.
