WHEREAS, Patricia Ann Lee Wirt, the Journal Clerk of the House of Delegates, retired on January 1, 1999; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Pat Wirt graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Madison College; and

WHEREAS, Pat Wirt joined the House Clerk’s staff as a proofreader in 1968 and became Assistant Journal Clerk in 1974 and Journal Clerk in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Pat Wirt served under House Clerks George R. Rich, Joseph H. Holleman, Jr., and Bruce F. Jamerson and under Speakers John Warren Cooke, A. L. Philpott, and Thomas W. Moss, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Pat Wirt was a member of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries, assisted the Virginia YMCA Model General Assembly as a legislative staff member, and served the House Clerk’s staff as a leader for the Legislative Operations Management Team; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her responsibility for the official record of the House of Delegates’ sessions, Pat Wirt concludes 30 years of proofing and editing, compiling and typing, and researching required for the various publications and printed materials of the House of Delegates; and

WHEREAS, Pat Wirt’s co-workers and associates in other legislative branch agencies will greatly miss her animation, candor, and institutional memory; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Patricia Ann Lee Wirt be commended for her many years of dedicated service to the House of Delegates; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patricia Ann Lee Wirt as an expression of the House of Delegates’ gratitude and best wishes for a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement.
