HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 845
Commending the Martinsville High School football team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 12, 1999
Agreed to by the Senate, February 18, 1999

WHEREAS, the Bulldogs football team from Martinsville High School completed the 1998 season with a sparkling record of 12 victories and a single defeat; and

WHEREAS, led by veteran Head Coach Taylor Edwards, the Piedmont District and Region IV Coach of the Year, the Bulldogs won the Piedmont District championship; and

WHEREAS, Martinsville also won the Region IV, Division 4 championship to advance to the Virginia High School League state finals; and

WHEREAS, under Coach Edwards, the Bulldogs have won nine district titles and six regional championships, have finished as runners-up in the state twice, and have captured one state football championship; and

WHEREAS, spearheading the 1998 Bulldogs’ success were All-State defensive back Danny Wade, All-State running back Marcus Hairston, All-State offensive lineman Win Webster, and All-State defensive lineman Joe Simington; and

WHEREAS, the perennial success of the Martinsville High School Bulldogs football team is a tribute to the dedication and talent of the players, the preparation and leadership of the coaching staff, and the support of the students of Martinsville High School and the greater Martinsville community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly salute the Bulldogs from Martinsville High School on their exceptional 1998 season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Taylor Edwards in honor of the championship performance of the Martinsville High School football team.
