HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 831
On the death of Laura Kathleen Purcell.

WHEREAS, Laura Kathleen Purcell, Bassett High School’s reigning homecoming queen, died in an automobile accident on July 1, 1998; and

WHEREAS, an exceedingly popular and accomplished young woman, Laura Purcell was involved in numerous activities at Bassett High School and was voted by her classmates as Most Attractive and Most Unforgettable; and

WHEREAS, Laura Purcell was a member of the Student Council Association, the Future Business Leaders of America, the Interact Club, and Students Organized for Developing Attitudes, a group that gives advice to younger students; and

WHEREAS, Laura Purcell played varsity softball and volleyball at Bassett High School and was highly respected by her peers, teachers, counselors, and the school administration; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the tragic and untimely loss of a young Virginian of great achievement and even greater potential, Laura Kathleen Purcell; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Laura Kathleen Purcell as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
