996202198WHEREAS, V. Rea Jones was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in November of 1991 and served as chairman of the Board of Supervisors from January 1996 to December 1998; and
WHEREAS, V. Rea Jones served as a member of the Orange County Planning Commission from 1974 to 1991, and as unanimously elected chairman from 1982 to 1991, during which time the commission compiled and approved the first Orange County Comprehensive Plan and initiated the use of a capital improvements plan in the county as a fiscal planning tool; and
WHEREAS, V. Rea Jones has unselfishly served his community and the business community in various capacities, including serving as a member of the board of directors of First Virginia Bank for 15 years, as member and chairman of the Lake Anna Advisory Committee, and as president and director of the Orange Madison Cooperative Farm Service; and
WHEREAS, an active farmer and businessman in Orange County, V. Rea Jones has represented his peers through his involvement in the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and as president of the Farm Bureau; and
WHEREAS, V. Rea Jones served the Commonwealth as a member of the Virginia National Guard, retiring at the rank of brigadier general; and
WHEREAS, an active member of the North Pamunkey Baptist Church, V. Rea Jones has served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school director, trustee, and member of various church committees; and
WHEREAS, V. Rea Jones has been compassionate in caring for others and is devoted to his family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend V. Rea Jones for his lifetime of service to Orange County and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to V. Rea Jones as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation and gratitude for his many contributions to the citizens of Orange County.
