HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 822
Requesting Virginia's local governments to offer free parking to certain veterans.

WHEREAS, those veterans who are former prisoners of war and those veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart have made great sacrifices for the nation and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, such veterans have been recognized by the Commonwealth through the issuance of Virginia license plates bearing Purple Heart and Former POW designations; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's localities may also wish to recognize such veterans by providing free parking at locality-owned parking meters for all vehicles having license plates bearing Purple Heart and Former POW designations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That Virginia's local governments are requested to consider offering free parking to certain veterans; specifically, Virginia's localities may wish to recognize such veterans by providing free parking at locality-owned parking meters for all vehicles having license plates bearing Purple Heart and Former POW designations; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit copies of this resolution to Virginia's localities in order that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly in this matter.
