WHEREAS, those veterans who are former prisoners of war and those veterans who are recipients of the Purple Heart have made great sacrifices for the nation and the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, such veterans have been recognized by the Commonwealth through the issuance of Virginia license plates bearing Purple Heart and Former POW designations; and

WHEREAS, Virginia's localities may also wish to recognize such veterans by providing free parking at locality-owned parking meters for all vehicles having license plates bearing Purple Heart and Former POW designations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That Virginia's local governments are requested to [ offer consider offering ] free parking to certain veterans; specifically, Virginia's localities may wish to recognize such veterans by providing free parking at locality-owned parking meters for all vehicles having license plates bearing Purple Heart and Former POW designations; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to Virginia's localities in order that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly in this matter.
