HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 784
Commending the Suffolk Lions Club on its 75th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Suffolk Lions Club was organized on July 18, 1923, and chartered on September 4, 1923; and

WHEREAS, the Suffolk Lions Club has been actively involved in the Suffolk community for the past 75 years and has consistently expanded and enlarged its programs and the number of people affected by them; and

WHEREAS, in line with Lions Clubs’ traditional interest in preserving eyesight, the Suffolk Lions Club has collected and donated thousands of pairs of eyeglasses over the years, has paid for operations for blind children, and has helped to provide leader dogs for the blind; and

WHEREAS, the Suffolk Lions Club has raised tens of thousands of dollars to help a wide range of charitable and community organizations, including the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Red Cross, the Virginia Cancer Foundation, and the Lions Club Diabetes Association; and

WHEREAS, through its continuing programs such as the White Cane Days, the Cheer Fund, and the Sight First program, the Suffolk Lions Club continues to provide vital assistance to needy people in the Suffolk community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Suffolk Lions Club on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David A. Salmon, president, in recognition of the exemplary and ongoing contributions of the Suffolk Lions Club.
