1999 SESSION
WHEREAS, Guy Otto Farley, Jr., a prominent Warrenton businessman and Northern Virginia attorney and a former member of the House of Delegates, died on November 1, 1998; and
WHEREAS, a native of Staunton, Guy Farley was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia School of Law; and
WHEREAS, for 25 years a successful attorney in Northern Virginia, Guy Farley also served as assistant Commonwealth’s attorney and was a member of the Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorneys Association; and
WHEREAS, elected to the House of Delegates in 1963, Guy Farley represented the citizens of the 20th House District until 1969, serving on the House Courts of Justice, General Laws, and Labor Committees; and
WHEREAS, Guy Farley was also a member of the Virginia State Crime Commission; and
WHEREAS, a member of the National Platform Committee of the Republican Party, Guy Farley served as Virginia state chairman of Citizens for Reagan and Bush in 1980; and
WHEREAS, more recently Guy Farley was a prominent and successful hotel developer and chairman of a hotel management firm in Warrenton; and
WHEREAS, a founding elder of the Warrenton Bible Fellowship, Guy Farley served on the board of directors of Grace Ministries, a counseling ministry in Warrenton; and
WHEREAS, a man of many talents and significant accomplishments, Guy Farley leaves an enviable legacy of achievement and service to the citizens of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an exceptionally valuable Virginian, Guy Otto Farley, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Guy Otto Farley, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s deep and abiding respect for his memory.
