HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 622
Commending Northern Virginia Family Service.

WHEREAS, since 1924 Northern Virginia Family Service has been a leading source of help for Northern Virginia families in need; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia Family Service has for 75 years assisted individuals and families in improving their quality of life and has worked to promote community cooperation and support in responding to family needs; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia Family Service has evolved from a small, volunteer organization to a multifaceted agency with eight offices, three thrift shop locations, over 200 employees, and an army of dedicated volunteers; and

WHEREAS, relying on the assistance of local governments, community donations, and corporate support, Northern Virginia Family Service provides services to individuals and families of low and moderate income; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia Family Service offers such services as health and community outreach, job training, housing services, counseling, foster care, and youth programs; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia Family Service served nearly 24,000 people during its 1998 fiscal year; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia Family Service was recognized as the most outstanding social service organization in Northern Virginia by the Northern Virginia Coalition of Human Service Non-Profit Agencies; and

WHEREAS, Northern Virginia Family Service is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, one of the few agencies in the area to receive such accreditation; and

WHEREAS, celebrating 75 years of service to the community, Northern Virginia Family Service continues to provide creative and innovative programs to help individuals and families in need; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Northern Virginia Family Service on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Northern Virginia Family Service as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation for its 75 years of meritorious service to the citizens of Northern Virginia.
