HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 575
Commending Rob Lovell.

WHEREAS, Rob Lovell, girls’ basketball coach at Turner Ashby High School, guided the Knights to the 1998 Virginia High School League Group AA state basketball championship; and

WHEREAS, the 1998 Turner Ashby Knights girls’ basketball team established school records for most wins in a season (28), most points scored (1,806), and most 3-point field goals (89); and

WHEREAS, most importantly, Coach Rob Lovell’s Knights won Turner Ashby’s first-ever girls’ basketball state championship; and

WHEREAS, Coach Rob Lovell also celebrated his 100th victory at Turner Ashby during 1998, as his team won its third consecutive Valley District championship and its first Region II championship; and

WHEREAS, Rob Lovell was instrumental in the development of two All-State players at Turner Ashby: Jami Cornwell, first-team All-State, Region II and Group AA Player of the Year, and all-time leading scorer in team history; and Marsha Kinder, second-team All-State, first-team All-District and All-Region, and the school’s second leading all-time scorer; and

WHEREAS, Coach Rob Lovell was named the 1998 Valley District Coach of the Year, the 1998 Region II Coach of the Year, the 1998 Virginia High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year, and the Associated Press Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, with an overall coaching record of 110-54, Coach Rob Lovell has made Turner Ashby girls’ basketball a force to be reckoned with and placed Bridgewater firmly on the Commonwealth’s basketball map; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Coach Rob Lovell on the outstanding success of the Turner Ashby High School girls’ basketball team; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Rob Lovell as an expression of the General Assembly’s congratulations for his well-deserved Coach of the Year honors.
