WHEREAS, in 1958, the Washington County Board of Supervisors donated the former county “poor farm” to the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, led by an energetic group of individuals who raised funds, planned, and upgraded the site, the 4-H Center was established and a complex of camping facilities was completed; and
WHEREAS, over the past 40 years, more than 60,000 4-H campers have used the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center facilities, along with nearly 500,000 other campers representing businesses, organizations, and family groups; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center offers campers a range of activities, including team sports, swimming, horsemanship, and nature studies; and
WHEREAS, in 1999, the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center will celebrate 40 years of 4-H camping, of developing today’s youth for the world of tomorrow, and of adherence to the 4-H motto: “To Make the Best Better”; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center for its dedication to improving the lives and opportunities of the young people of Southwest Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Greg McMillan, director of the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center, in recognition of the center’s 40 years of 4-H camping.
