Referred to Committee on Transportation
----------

WHEREAS, for several years, Tangier and Chesapeake Cruises has operated the Rappahannock River Cruises out of Hoskins Creek in Tappahannock; and

WHEREAS, the success of Rappahannock River Cruises has had a salutary effect on tourism in the area, bringing visitors to the Town of Tappahannock and its surrounding counties; and

WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation is faced with two options for the location of the Hoskins Creek crossing, usually referred to as the upstream and downstream options; and

WHEREAS, the downstream option would adversely affect the operation of Rappahannock River Cruises and would, according to the company, force it to discontinue operations; and

WHEREAS, Rappahannock River Cruises’ current location on Hoskins Creek is the only such location on the Rappahannock River that affords both deep water and sufficient parking; and

WHEREAS, in addition to owners of Rappahannock River Cruises, the Tappahannock Town Council and the Essex County Board of Supervisors support the location of the crossing at the upstream Hoskins Creek option, as do many local officials and citizens of the affected localities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly request that the Virginia Department of Transportation utilize the upstream option for the location of the Route 17 Hoskins Creek crossing; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit a copy of this resolution to David R. Gehr, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Transportation, so that he may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly.
